On this page, we will be collecting questions and answers about working with Moodle. Add your questions, and feel free to reply to those questions you have an answer for.

Registration

  • How to register?

1. First time moodlers need to create a new account. This tutorial will give you and students step-by-step instructions:

http://dafnegonzalez.com/id3-124-05/content/reg-moodle.html (Daf)

a. Make sure you give your students the URL to your Moodle, the URL in the tutorial is from Daf's Moodle. You will need to give further instructions for steps 1-3. Another option is to create another tutorial using your own screenshots (you can use a wiki page to do so)

b. Give the enrollment key to your students (don't post it in a public place) (Daf)

2. Second time moodlers (to the same Moodle) only need to be given the enrollment key. Once they get to the platform, they click on the course link and they will be asked for the enrollment key. (Daf)

More than one section

1. How do I include two different students' sections in Moddle?(Marianela's question)

You could divide your course in groups, but since this takes changes in the setting of the course, I would suggest that you open activities for each section. For example, name the forums, glossaries, wikis, etc. like this: sect 1: your expectations, sect 2: your expectations. In this way, each section will post to the corresponding forum and you will be able to keep track of what the students in each section do. (Daf)

Adding activities

1. In what Moodle section shall I ask my students to send their activities to? (Marianela's question)

Your Moodle course has the weekly format. That is, you have 12 spaces (one for each week) in the central column in Moodle. You will be adding your weekly resources and activities in the corresponding weekly spaces. For example, all the activities and resources for week 1, will be posted to the Week 1 space, etc. If you open a forum in week 1, send your students to the forum in week 1. (Daf)

2. Wiki for the students to select their topic for presentation

Using external resources

3. Is it wise to have an external wiki with the course content and the rest of the things, or working everything within the Moodle platform is just enough?(Marianela's question)

Some people use only Moodle. In our case, we will have the Web page ( http://dafnegonzalez.com/id2125 ) with all the course information. I like to have a separate page or wiki with the course content in case there are problems with the platform (the connection at the USB is not 100% reliable). Apart from Moodle, we will be using different tools for audio and video but we can post the links to these resources inside Moodle. (Daf)

Correcting in Moodle

(Marianela)

Once you have uploaded a file to Moodle, go to the resources pull down menu, and select Link a file or Web page

Then follow the steps shown in the images:

1.

2.

3.
